The SheShed Opens Its Doors

For most people, it’s just another Thursday, approaching the end of just another week. But for Kerrie and Craig Burrows and the women of the Sunshine Coast, this is only just the beginning! A vision years in the mind of it’s owners, and more than 12 months in the making, the SheShed has officially opened its doors. What was once a well-established iconic auto mechanic shop in the heart of the city, is now a thriving central hub for local artisans and women to connect, create, and form a genuine community.

With over 800 subscribers in the database, dozens of artists, craftspeople, educators, and facilitators registering their interest in sharing their talents, the SheShed has already formed a life of it’s own and promises to become an icon in its own right. Upon entering the doors for the first time, one will be greeted with laughter, smiles, and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and empowerment. After months of tirelessly working to prepare for the opening, painting walls, constructing tables, building spaces, and pouring in endless amounts of love and sweat, the Sunshine Coast now has a place just for “her.” With the motto, “she is me, she is you, she is us” it’s easy to understand why the community has rallied around this place and already feels they belong.

And what’s not to celebrate? At a time when people have learned to isolate and socially distance, it’s a welcome sight to see people from all over the Coast lending a hand to bring this dream to fruition. The opening night festivities are the product of the heart and soul of too many to mention, including plumbers, electricians, painters, builders, web designers, writers, handymen, pizza chefs, photographers, baristas, local politicians, business owners, church members, family, friends, and the occasional stranger asking how they can lend a hand. It’s the epitome of love and connection, and brings us together once again.

Functioning as both a venue for hire and a centre for inspiring and educational workshops, there is something for everyone at the SheShed. With multiple spaces available, the variety of activities is like an aromatic potpourri, ready to thrill the senses and draw you in. On day one, women will be able to register for any of the following workshops (with many more to come!):

If you ever have a day when you don’t know what to do, where to go, or who to call, now you know you can simply stop in, enjoy a cuppa at their café, start an engaging conversation in the comfy lounge, form new friendships, and feel a sense of connection and joy from the minute you arrive at the SheShed.
